WHY VISIT THE COTSWOLDS?
The Cotswolds is one of the most beautiful and iconic places to visit in the world. It has everything from charming Cotswold stone cottages to hidden villages and wonderful natural scenery. Sometimes you feel you are in another world. It also has the largest number of conservation areas of any English region.
The Cotswolds is home to a rolling countryside of 3000 miles of public footpaths which are steeped in history. The history goes all the way back to Neolithic times 6000 years ago, really peaking over the last few hundred years due to the wool trade.
The Cotswolds is also particularly famous for its yellow-coloured limestone, which was used to construct the villages and lively market towns. The honey coloured north to the golden centre and pearl coloured south. Each area is so unique, and blends perfectly with the surrounding rich green countryside. With Undiscovered Cotswolds Tours you can see what makes the Cotswolds unlike anywhere else.
J. B. Priestley once wrote of Cotswold stone:
“The truth is that it has no colour that can be described. Even when the sun is obscured and the light is cold, these walls are still faintly warm and luminous, as if they knew the trick of keeping the lost sunlight of centuries glimmering about them.”

During Undiscovered Cotswolds Tours we will share interesting stories and tell you all about this amazing region. The history of the Cotswolds goes back thousands of years to neolithic times. You can still see ancient ruins from 6000 years ago. Then moving through the history to around 400 years ago when the area become extremely affluent through the wool industry. This wool was shipped all over the world. Even some native Amercian Indians would wear it back in the day.
The wool trade has since reduced enormously. However, the beautiful region that was formed because of this looks now more magestic than possibly ever before. With the yellow limestone buildings and small secret bubbling brooks and rivers. There is nowhere else quite like it in the world.
My name is Ian and I founded Undiscovered Cotswolds Tours in 2016 and lived in the Cotswolds for many years. During that time I have discovered many fascinating places and stories which only a local would know about. I would love to share these with you!
I have also been lucky to travel the world living in many countries abroad. I have met many different types of people and cultures. I have also worked as a tour operator for one of the worlds most discerning travel agents Audley Travel.
I know that a tour is not just a case of tick off as many places as you can, so that you can update Facebook. This may be part of it but the difference comes in understanding the pace of a tour and the comfort. We won’t be rushing around stressed. We will be taking it at the right pace for you, giving time to enjoy each village and area we see. We also limit the size of the group to 8 people so that it is far more comfortable.
If that’s not enough then how about because you can get to spend time with me – Ian. I run the business and I am very passionate with many an interesting story to tell. You can ask me how I survived on my cycle from London to Cape Town? I genuinely want you to have a wonderful time so I work as hard for you as I can to make it a day to remember. I always do my best to go the extra mile 🙂

If you would like to do a tour of the picturesque villages that Jane Austen knew as well as her birthplace and her father’s church at Steventon then we would recommend a local guide called Phil Howe from Hidden Britain Tours.
We are happy to offer tours of Bath when included as part of a tour of the Cotswolds however if you are staying in Bath and would like to book a 2 hour tour of the city then we would recommend an excellent company called Bath Insider Tours.
