The beauty of a Cotswolds private driving tour is the freedom and flexibility that it gives you on the day. This tour has a set itinerary where we have a recommended route. Here we have combined idyllic villages with the more famous Cotswold towns. This gives you a wonderful overview and experience of what the Cotswolds is all about. As it is a private tour we are totally flexible as to how long you would like in each place. We are also very flexible and are more than happy to modify the itinerary on the day if you would like.

The starting time for the tour is 10am and we can collect you from anywhere in the Northern Cotswolds or Oxford. The Cotswolds private driving tour is ideal for a day trip from London and the most cost/time effective option is to take a direct train from London Paddington to Oxford station.

Paint me a picture:

Departing from your hotel or Oxford station at 10am, you’ll start the day by visiting the fascinating village of Great Tew. A fairy-tale village of thatched cottages and beautiful landscapes that is away from the tourists. The home of several famous characters and the future home of royalty.

From Great Tew we then continue on to Stow-on-the-Wold, the highest town in the Cotswolds. Here you’ll have time to browse among honey-coloured buildings, cosy pubs, narrow streets, interesting shops and tiny tea rooms.

Our next stop is the picturesque village of Lower Slaughter, one of the prettiest villages in the Northern Cotswolds and set in the most amazing countryside.

Our next stop is arguably the most famous Cotswolds town and regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England; Bourton-on-the-Water. Known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’ there is plenty to see and do with a wealth of attractions, shops, restaurants and tea rooms. Here you have free time to explore and enjoy some lunch.

From here we go through some enchanting Cotswold villages to the town of Burford, often called the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’. A very iconic town and home to one of the most beautiful and ancient churches in the region. Stories aplenty!

Then we spend the afternoon travelling along the stunning Windrush Valley visiting hidden villages like Swinbrook, which is the home of the notorious Mitford Sisters. Then a highlight of tour, the beautiful village and ancient ruins of Minster Lovell. This pretty village on the River Windrush boasts plenty of Cotswold stone and thatched roofs, as well as holding the title of being the region’s most haunted village. Minster Lovell is perhaps best known for the ruins of its 15th century hall, owned by generations of the Lovell family.

Departure will be late afternoon returning to your hotel or Oxford station by 5:00pm.

Useful Information

On your Cotswolds private driving tour you will be looked after by our knowledgeable driver-guide, and travel in one of our comfortable vehicles that can hold up to eight guests.

Your guide will give you a background of the area’s history as you travel, and at each of the stops you’re free to either explore the village with your guide or to have some free time to yourself, relax and maybe do some shopping. We tend to stop for lunch in a traditional country pub where you can sample a traditional ale out in the sunshine if you’d like.

The tour departs from Oxford at 10am and we can collect from your hotel or the train station if you are traveling from London. Oxford can be easily reached from London Paddington & London Marylebone train stations making it the ideal tour for a day trip from London.

How to get here?

The start time for this private tour is 10am and we can collect you from anywhere in the Northern/Central Cotswolds or Oxford. If coming from London then the easiest and cheapest option is to take a train direct from London Paddington or London Marylebone to Oxford station. From here we can pick you up for free! The website we recommend for train tickets is Trainline.

However, if you wish to make things easier and less stressful then we can pick you up and drop you off from anywhere in the region including London. For this the Tailor-Made Cotswolds Tour is for you.

The minimum is 1 person and the maximum is 7 people. For larger groups please send us an email to discuss availability and pricing.

Can I be picked up from London/Bath/Stratford?

No. This tour begins from any starting point you choose within the Northern/Central Cotswolds or Oxford. If you would like to be picked up from another area then our Tailor-Made Tour is for you.

Can I add in notable attractions like Warwick Castle? Or do a tour of a local city like Oxford or Bath?

No. This tour has a fixed itinerary. If you would like to make amendments to the tour then our Tailor-Made Tour is for you.

What are the payment arrangements for the tour?

We require full payment at the time of booking.

Do you have a cancellation policy?

Our cancellation policy is 100% of the cost charged for cancellations within 48 hours prior the tour. 50 % of the cost is charged for cancellations 3 – 7 days before the tour. For cancellations given 8 days and greater before the tour then we charge a 5% cancellation fee.
